Fall 2025 CHESS CLUB

BEGINNER LEVEL
In-person: (2nd grade and above)
Location: 33-21 Crescent St., Astoria, NY 11106
Dates: Thursdays | September 25 -December 11, 2025
(except October 2 and November 27)
10 Sessions, 6:00 - 7:00 pm
Maximum 14 students per class
This chess club is for children who already know the basic rules of chess and how to find checkmate. Beginners will focus on tactics, checkmates, and building a solid foundation in chess

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
In-person: (3rd grade and above)
Location: 33-21 Crescent St., Astoria, NY 11106
Dates: Wednesdays | October 22 - December 10, 2025
8 Sessions, 6:00 -7:00 pm
Maximum 14 students per class
Intermediate students will focus on preparing for competitive tournaments. They will learn to create strategic plans, identify targets and goals, understand piece relationships, think ahead, calculate variations, and consider their opponent’s defense.

IN-SCHOOL PROGRAM

Move One Chess specializes in classroom, in-school chess programs for elementary school students. The primary goal of the program is to not only learn to play a legal game of chess, but to also provide children with an opportunity to reap the academic benefits of learning the game and give students the skills to later develop foresight while learning strategies, tactics, calculation, and thought process as applied to chess.

Every Move One Chess session begins with a teacher-led, interactive lesson with a specific aim. An activity is then given to the students to reinforce the newly introduced skill, as well as time to play a full game of chess against one of their peers.
